 
The Counseling Center
of Milwaukee, Training Program offers premiere graduate
internships for clinical social work programs and community
counseling programs, post-graduate externships are also
available for those
looking for opportunities to earn their 3000 hours of
clinical work for licensing.
The internship program provides Master’s level students with
a wide variety of clinical experiences. Eight to ten
students are selected through application and interviews
from area University programs. Students receive extensive
training in crisis intervention, clinical assessment,
diagnosis, treatment planning, intervention and discharge
planning, as well as relevant in topics such as
psychopharmacology, group therapy, treating survivors of
trauma, couples counseling, working with gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender people. They work with an
extensive array of clients-all ages, genders,
race/ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, income
levels, presenting problems, and diagnoses. There is
opportunity to rotate through various TCCM programs.
Supervision is provided both individually and in group.
Interns gain professional skill and competence while placed
with TCCM.
The externship program is a non-paid placement and accepts
graduates from accredited University programs, who have had
a field placement. There is a monthly fee of $125 to cover
all overhead expenses plus supervision. There is one partial
scholarship given per year. Externs receive the same
extensive training as the interns and are provided group
supervision. A one-year commitment is required.
The Counseling Program provides short-term, crisis
intervention mental health services. Services are provided
by interns (Master’s degree students), externs
(post-Master’s degree in the process of earning 3000
clinical hours for licensing), volunteers (licensed
therapist donating their time) and licensed therapists.
These clinicians are supervised by the clinical supervision
team consisting of two licensed clinical social workers, one
licensed professional counselor and one psychologist.
