The Counseling Center of Milwaukee,
Inc. (TCCM) was established in 1970, and today serves more than
11,500 men, women and children annually. Motivated by our mission to
help, adults, and families in need take charge of their lives,
connect to others, and contribute to the community, our programs are
designed to protect children, strengthen individuals and families,
and improve the emotional and mental health of people at risk in our
community. For decades, we have been leaders in the Milwaukee area
serving those who face family violence, sexual abuse, homelessness,
HIV infection, concerns related to sexual orientation, and mental
illness. Since the 1970s, TCCM - working closely with UWM, Marquette
University, and Loyola University - has been one of Milwaukee’s
foremost training facilities dedicated to strengthening the quality
of clinical services to those in need. As an award-winning United
Way supported agency, TCCM is recognized as an effective and
efficient provider of service to those most in need. TCCM’s major
initiatives include:
-
Pathfinders: Wisconsin’s oldest, most comprehensive service for
Runaway, "Throwaway" & Homeless Youth.
-
Hand-In-Hand: Milwaukee’s oldest, most comprehensive ongoing
counseling program for young victims of sexual abuse.
-
Step 5:

problems.
-
Women-to-Women: Milwaukee’s premier HIV prevention and education
initiative for our community’s highest risk women.
-
Counseling and Group Program:
One of Milwaukee’s leading providers
of accessible, mental health care and support for those unable to
afford services.
-
Training:
Milwaukee’s foremost, longest standing program for
undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate training in social work
and mental health services.
With an annual budget of $1.6 million, TCCM employs a diverse group
of approximately 50 full- and part-time staff, as well as
professional consultants, certified therapists and more than 100
volunteers. In the past year, more than 11,500 individuals received
TCCM services. Of those receiving direct services, 62% were African
American, 16% Caucasian, 10% Hispanic and 12% were Asian, Native
American or another race/bi-racial. 2003 client demographics also
show that 57% of clients were female and 39% were male (with 4%
other or unknown). Services are offered at little or no cost and the
vast majority of TCCM’s clients are low-income.
