I seek to inspire students to appreciate the creative and artistic process. Because the importance of art in education is measureless and open to interpretation, just like life, I consider my role as an art teacher to be more a stewardship than that of a master instructing a student. A fundamental belief of my classroom is it doesn’t always matter if you are “good” at art, it is more important to consider how art is good for you.

Art Education teaches students to respect and appreciate their own interpretations and those of others while developing basic skills, encouraging visual awareness, intellectual growth and creative self-expression.

Through structured course work, which includes; knowledge of artists, art principles and educated critique, students are exposed to cultures around the world. Art enables each student to develop positive attitudes toward self, others and the environment through creative experiences. Through an exciting and encouraging art environment, using my knowledge of art and history, I strive to empower students to believe that they are creative and that anyone is capable of making art.

Problem solving and creative learning encourages students to relate visual knowledge to other core subjects and to respond with originality, appreciation, flexibility and imagination. The use and application of skills, processes and mediums encourages self-expression, creative growth, and discovery. Assessment is made on individual achievement related to each student’s stage of growth and development. Commitment to the Art program is essential to every student’s development as a well-rounded, creative and productive global citizen.

I encourage students to creatively explore & consider a variety of options to make original, imaginative art. I ask & encourage questions for the development of critical thinking skills. I strive for the appreciation & demonstration of good craftsmanship & work habits. I motivate students to understand & complete all required steps of a given process.

I work to establish an organized & well-structured classroom with clear rules & standards for behavior & artwork. I adjust & accommodate lessons for the individual needs of students.
